SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 59

Requesting the Division of Veterans' Affairs study the process by which United States Department of Veterans' Affairs grave markers and headstones are set in West Virginia and the charges and fees associated therewith.

Whereas,
Veterans and family members of veterans have voiced significant concerns over the process by which United States Department of Veterans' Affairs grave markers and headstones are set on gravesites in West Virginia and the charges and fees associated therewith ; and
Whereas, If
there are problems with the process by which United States Department of Veterans' Affairs grave markers and headstones are set in West Virginia, or if the charges and fees associated therewith are excessive, these problems or excessive charges and fees may best be addressed by the affected parties and associations representing the parties with the assistance of the Division of Veterans' Affairs; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Division of Veterans' Affairs is hereby requested to
study the process by which United States Department of Veterans' Affairs grave markers and headstones are set in West Virginia and the charges and fees associated therewith; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the study should include
meetings with the West Virginia Veterans Coalition and the West Virginia Cemetery and Funeral Association ; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Division of Veterans' Affairs shall present a final report to the Joint Committee on Government and Finance, no later than its scheduled meeting in December, 2002, and that the report shall contain the complete findings of the study together with recommendations to the Legislature on actions that may be taken to address any problems identified.
